2014 NFL Draft First Round Grades: Cleveland Browns

8th Overall Pick: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State

The Browns grade gets a bit of a boost for trading back with Buffalo for yet another first round selection, and also for giving up just a 5th round pick to get the guy they wanted. However, everyone was sure this quick trade up was for Johnny Manziel. Their fans thought the same thing too apparently based on the "Cleveland Sucks" chants coming from the crowd. I actually like this pick better than Manziel, but I did not expect them to get a corner with this selection. People will certainly question the decision to not stay put and grab Watkins or Evans. However, pairing Gilbert with Hayden makes a potentially potent duo at corner. It's not the blockbuster pick we all expected, but it will certainly help the defense a lot.

22nd Overall Pick: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M

Boom. There it is. The Browns have certainly been active today. They've held the 4th, 8th, 9th, 22nd, and 26th selections at different times tonight. They surrendered a third rounder to move up 4 picks to grab Johnny, which is a pretty fair price. Remember, they got a 1st rounder next year from Buffalo, so they are still doing just fine on picks. As much as I dislike Johnny Manziel, the value is certainly there at 22. If Johnny flops at 22, its not nearly as big of a deal as if he flopped as the 4th overall pick. The spotlight is now on Cleveland (never thought I'd say that) and Johnny Football.

  4. Hey dummies, the trade the Browns made with Buffalo will go down as one of the best trades in franchise history. The Bills stink and I am pretty sure Petine knowing what he does about the Bills just made this deal a bigger no-brainer. They got the best cb in the draft and a top 10 pick next year where there is going to be 4 qb's taken within the first 10 picks so that draft choice they got is going to be worth a heck of a lot more then a very good receiver. I can't remember the last time a top 2 or 3 receiver in the league won anything.......Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin???????
