2014 NFL Draft First Round Grades: Pittsburgh Steelers

15th Overall Pick: Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State

I wasn't quite sure where the Steelers were going with this selection, but I didn't expect Shazier to be the pick. I think this is a bit early for Shazier, who I pictured going in the 20s. He doesn't fill a huge need, but this will certainly help out the front seven. The Steelers have a great history of developing linebackers, so they should be able to get the most out of him.

GRADE: B

  2. the secondary is dead and we go linebacker? I just don't get it. Unless we plan to sack a QB every play they can still catch balls against our open secondary. I really hope we are able to pick up pierre desir in late rounds. He played D2 i know, but the Kid has great vision and skills.

  3. A Good/Great Secondary, has a GREAT pass rush. The Steelers are in their sub package nearly every game. They needed someone who could bring the pressure up the middle and be able to cover backs. Pittsburgh helped their secondary by providing their defense with someone who could limit the time the QB has.

  4. Not often you can get an athlete that big who can run a 4.4/4.5 40, if Spence can't go Shazier can both cover TE's and rush the passer.....I was never sold on Dennard as an answer for our secondary...good pick...
