2014 NFL Draft First Round Grades: New York Jets

18th Overall Pick: Calvin Pryer, S, Louisville

I thought it was surprising that both Pryor and Clinton-Dix were still available, and new one of them would be coming off the board soon. Rex Ryan has been pleading for a cornerback, so at least he got some sort of defensive back. Pryor's hard hitting mentality will sit well with Rex. I still think Clinton-Dix is a better safety, but the difference between the two is minimal. However, the biggest criticism the Jets will get for this pick is not going offense to help out Geno. It's definitely something to consider, but a solid weapon can still be found in round two.

GRADE: B+

  1. There a bunch of good receivers still on the board. I am sure the Jets will draft some skill position players to help the offense in the 2nd & 3rd rounds tonight. It is way to early to grade a draft. Remember that the Jets did have needs in the secondary, many of which were addressed with Calvin Pryor. After tonight the Jets will still have 9 draft picks to go, so Pryor was a a very good pick a number 1.
