The Panthers are once again one of the favorite sleeper teams make a playoff run. However, I really can't envision them having a record over .500. Cam Newton is obviously one of the most talented and athletic young quarterbacks in the game, but what does he have around him? A weak offensive line, a terrible group of running backs, and no reliable targets outside Smith and maybe Olsen. Cam Newton certainly isn't the most consistent performer either. Also, the loss of Chud at offensive coordinator could take a while to re-adjust to for Cam. The front seven of the defense was certainly improved through the draft and free agency, but the secondary is one of the leagues worst. Teams may have a hard time running on Carolina, but the secondary will be torched by most quarterbacks. The defensive line won't even have time to get to the opposing quarterback. There are certainly bright spots on this team, but the negatives far out way the positives in my opinion. I think Carolina is still a few good off seasons away from being a legitimate contender.
